Artist Of The Month - Tina Dickinson
We are excited to introduce Tina Dickinson, our Artist of the Month for January.
Tina is a valued artist at Carousel and works across a number of our projects. This February, she will be celebrating 13 years with Oska Bright Film Festival, which she first got involved with in 2013. Since then, she has played an important role in helping the festival grow.
At Oska Bright, Tina watches and judges films and helps lead the festival with the team. She has travelled across the UK running workshops and showing films from previous festivals, sharing learning disabled filmmakers’ work with new audiences.
Tina is also part of Welcome Back, a project that works with cinemas to improve accessibility and bring learning disabled audiences back into the cinema. She says, I’m passionate about making sure everyone feels welcome and included.
Another project Tina is involved in is Oska Bright DIY, where she visits schools to run creative workshops, inspiring young people to explore film and storytelling.
Tina is also part of Postcards from My Seaside Town, a bold new work reflecting on learning disabled lives by the coast through film, audio and performance. She has been involved in filming and helping to share the changing stories of seaside towns in Sussex and Kent from the unique perspective of learning disabled residents.
Tina is also part of Carousel’s Task Force, a small group that meets to talk about what is working well at Carousel and what could change in the future. Together they help shape the organisation and make sure learning disabled voices are at the heart of decisions.
Outside of Carousel, Tina is an avid gamer and is learning how to make a video game. She is part of a group called Level Three, which runs events across the UK showing video games made by learning disabled and autistic people.
Tina has also completed all three Arts Awards, which is a fantastic achievement.
Looking ahead, Tina says I can’t wait to do more with Carousel and Oska Bright this year.
