Artist Of The Month - Kirsty Pentecost

Meet Kirsty Pentecost, our artist of the month for July. As Chair of Trustees and a member of the Oska Bright team, she's been a key part of Carousel for over 10 years.

Starting as an Oska Bright team member in 2015, Kirsty helps curate the festival, reviews film submissions and supports the running of the festival week. In its last edition, Kirsty helped create the F-rated Wild Women strand to highlight female learning disabled filmmakers. Taking on a more recent role of Access Lead, Kirsty is developing the accessibility of the event through introducing sensory elements.

During the festival’s touring year, Kirsty hosts film screenings, presentations, and delivers workshops as part of Oska Bright DIY. She says “working on Oska Bright has helped me to do everything I never thought I was able to do. Public speaking and running workshops in schools have helped me to step out of my comfort zone”.

As Chair of Trustees, a role Kirsty took on two years ago, she helps run the meetings by making sure they’re fun and easy for everyone to understand. She jokes that an important part of this is “telling people to shut up. In a nice way..” Alongside this, she writes up actions, meets with Directors to discuss Carousel’s work, writes for the Annual Report, and represents Carousel at events.

Kirsty’s work doesn’t stop there. She is part of the Blue Camel Club committee, where she helps decide on the theme, works on the front of house and contributes to the accessibility of the event.

Outside of Carousel, Kirsty is a flourishing artist who receives commissions across a variety of projects. She has recently created work for Speak Out and Figment Arts. Kirsty states that while she doesn’t have a specific style, she enjoys the freedom of creating different work using her iPad and the Procreate app.
