Artist Of The Month - F.witch

Meet our Artist of the Month for May, Flo Gordon, a classically trained singer, songwriter, and performing artist at Carousel. Flo goes under the alias F.witch, explaining that, “Flo Gordon just sounds too boring. F is for Flo, and Witch for the vibes.” Flo has worked with Carousel for six years and has gone from success to success.

Flo's love of singing began early on, starting with being a member of school choirs. She went on to join Glyndebourne Youth Opera from the age of 9 to 19, and still draws upon her classical training today. It informs her vocal technique, understanding of technical formalities when making music, and performing. “Opera taught me so much,” she explains. “It helps me understand the technical side of music, and the acting really helped me as a performer.”

Flo's first live performance as F.witch was at The Rock House at Komedia in 2020, which she often reflects on. “I like watching it back to see how far I’ve come”, she says.

At just 14, Flo wrote her first original song, Ice Cream On Mondays, which is her proudest work to date. The haunting electro track features seaside-inspired sound effects. Flo explains how fun it was to create the samples by dropping rocks into water and slamming books shut. In 2024, she collaborated with Carousel and Reggie London to create a music video for the song, which can be watched here.

Taking inspiration from a range of artists including Barns Courtney to Billie Eilish, Flo’s music can be described as haunting electro. Her soprano, ethereal vocal style has been compared to a modern-day Kate Bush. Flo explains that her music taste has changed in recent years and she now listens to a lot of medieval, folk and ‘angry woman music’ (think punk and heavy metal with female vocals). “I’m excited to explore some of this energy when creating new songs”, she says.
