Artists Of The Month • Carousel Chorus

We’re celebrating Carousel Chorus as our Artists of the Month.

Based in Brighton, Carousel Chorus are an experienced singing group made up of four learning disabled artists: Fran, Susannah, Ben and Ewan. Together, they write and perform original music, using their voices alongside instruments or performing entirely acapella. Over the years they have produced an impressive body of work inspired by the world around them.

During lockdown in 2020, the Chorus created and recorded Looking Out Our Windows, sharing what they could see from their homes and how they felt about the world outside during this time. Watch Looking Out Our Windows here.

In 2023, the Chorus released their first EP, Freedom. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, the collection features five original songs: Hearts and Flowers, Churchyard, Apple Orchard, Freedom and Elements. Listen to Freedom here.

The Chorus are currently working on a new project in partnership with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Wakehurst.

Since the project began in September 2025, the group have made regular visits to Wakehurst, using its landscapes and natural surroundings as inspiration for a new collection of music. They have been responding to the sights and sounds of the space.

The new work is being brought to life in the places that inspired it. As part of the project, the Chorus will perform their pieces at Wakehurst, with spatial audio recordings capturing each performance in 360 degrees. These recordings will be exhibited as artworks at Wakehurst.

So far, the Chorus have performed as part of the Wakehurst Community Festival and Wakehurst Meadows Conference. Their next performance will be at the Wakehurst Community Access Scheme Summer Party on Thursday 27 August.

We’re looking forward to seeing where the Chorus’s music takes them next.
